After graduating from university, Alison trained as an AIDS Buddy and assisted HIV/AIDS affected patients in Montreal. She later moved west and worked with AIDS Vancouver and the Positive Women's Network.
While serving on the board of the Pacific AIDS Resource Center (PARC), Alison worked one-on-one with HIV-positive kids in home settings and helped to organize retreats for HIV-positive women and children. She also assisted in the organization of PARC's involvement in the 11th International Conference on AIDS in Vancouver, BC. Held in July of 1996, the event assembled the world's most signified AIDS researchers and dispersed cutting edge information to an international audience.
As National Chair for UNICEF Canada's Unite For Children, Unite Against AIDS campaign, Alison has assisted UNICEF Canada's HIV/AIDS program over the course of five years with substantial financial support as well as by producing an 8-minute PSA and a 22-minute informational video on HIV/AIDS in Africa. In October of 2006, Alison visited UNICEF Canada's on-the-ground programs in South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Kenya. Alison brought a film crew with her to film the entire project. She will travel to China in the fall of 2007 to visit UNICEF Canada's programs in that country.
